The shoot took place on Ogmore beach, Wales, with the weather holding out just long enough for us to capture some awesome footage of the coin’s designer, Wuon-Gean.
Wuon-Gean took us through the creative process and her inspiration for the coin’s design. She explained how she spent many afternoons at the park observing people with their dogs and understanding the movement of various different breeds.
We were lucky enough to catch a glimpse of her sketch book -a compilation of endless detailed drawings of the dogs she’s encountered which offered inspiration for the coin’s conception and watched as she demonstrated the intricate carving process.
The full video featuring the Lunar Year of the Dog coin in all its canine glory will launch early in 2018. Thanks to Wuon-Gean, and everyone at The Royal Mint for another stunning and insightful shoot. Here’s to many more!
